Found across the Golf, Passat, Tiguan and GTI, the EA888 is a strong turbocharged petrol engine that benefits from attentive servicing. The things to watch are the timing chain tensioner on earlier units, where a cold-start rattle should never be ignored, raised oil consumption on some engines, and carbon build-up on the back of the intake valves that comes with direct injection. We carry out timing chain and tensioner replacement, diagnose and address oil consumption, and decarbonise intake valves with walnut blasting to restore crisp running and economy.
The 1.6 and 2.0 TDI diesels in the Golf, Passat, Tiguan and Touareg are superb long-distance engines when looked after. Common attention areas are the EGR valve and cooler, diesel particulate filter (DPF) health on cars used mainly for short trips, swirl flaps on earlier EA189 units, and injectors. We service and clean the EGR system, carry out correct DPF servicing and forced regeneration to keep it healthy, replace worn swirl flaps and diagnose injector faults, all to keep your diesel clean, smooth and efficient.
Volkswagen’s DSG dual-clutch gearboxes are brilliant when maintained on schedule. The 6-speed wet-clutch DQ250 needs a gearbox oil and filter change at the correct interval to stay reliable, while the 7-speed dry-clutch DQ200 is more sensitive and prone to mechatronic valve-body faults, juddering and gear-selection problems. We carry out DSG oil and filter services, run dealer-level diagnostics on the mechatronic unit, and put right juddering, hesitation and gear-selection faults before they leave you stranded.
Across the range we also handle the VW staples: electric water pump and thermostat housing replacement, which is a common failure on TSI engines, ignition coil and spark plug renewal to cure misfires and rough running, and full auto electrical diagnosis for warning lights, sensors and modules. We finish with a proper road test so you get your Volkswagen back running as it should.
