Ford engines and the work we know inside out

Ford build some of Britain’s best-loved cars, and they reward proper, knowledgeable care. Here is some of what we see day to day, and how we keep them healthy.

EcoBoost petrol engines

The 1.0 EcoBoost uses a wet timing belt, a belt that runs in engine oil, which degrades over time and must be replaced on schedule with the correct specification oil, or it can fail and damage the engine. The other common weak point is the brittle nylon coolant hose, known as the degas hose, which cracks and causes overheating. We carry out wet-belt replacement, renew the failure-prone coolant hoses and water pump, and protect the turbo with correct-spec oil services. The 1.5 and 1.6 EcoBoost need similar cooling and turbo care.

Diesel engines (TDCi)

The Duratorq TDCi diesels in the Focus, Mondeo, Kuga and Transit are strong workhorses that need their emissions systems looking after. We service the EGR system, keep the DPF healthy with proper regeneration, and handle injector, turbo and timing issues before they grow into big bills.

PowerShift & transmissions

The PowerShift (DPS6) dual-clutch automatic is well known for shuddering, jerking and rough gear changes. We diagnose the clutch and control-module faults behind it, carry out the necessary repairs, and service the manual gearboxes and clutches across the range.

Electrical, cooling & ST/RS performance

From warning lights and module faults to battery registration and coding, we run dealer-level diagnostics across the Ford range, and tackle the cooling-system leaks these engines are prone to. We also give the Fiesta ST, Focus ST and RS and the Mustang the mechanical care they deserve, from servicing and brakes to suspension, clutches and geometry for road or track.
